Velogames season 2022: A team by team review: Cofidis (Men & Women)

Team Cofidis
Team Cofidis Velogames 2022 review for men and women are done in the same post as will a few other teams.
Cofidis men cycling team
The most valuable rider for the Superclassico is kind of a surprise.
As I was expecting Bryan Coquard to be the one, Le Coq is only the 4th best placed of the team.
Guillaume’s Martin’s Giro 2022 performance got him Team Cofidis biggest points earner in the Grand Tour, but there has been 2 exceptional performances in Stage races:
- Ion Izagirre in Itzulia
- Simon Geschke in Romandie.
Simone Consonni:
Rated at 10 credit, he was the biggest asset in the Superclassico.
Top 10 in Milan Torino, De Panne, FrankFurt, Primus Classics and Paris Tours Elites largely contributed to his 1245 total making him the 32rd best superclassico rider.
Even in the Giro, he was worth his 6 points. 4th best unclassed rider, only Vander Poel, Juan Pe Lopez and Leemreize brought in more points than him!Verdict for 2023: he will be the main man for the French team, especially in the classics.
Piet Allegaert:
A big satisfication at times for many and a disappointment at others.
His 9th place at Frankfurt and 8th at Dwars door het Hageland were his main highlights.Verdict 2023: Unless he suddenly hits form, he willnow only be working for Consonni and Coquard.
Guillaume Martin
He might have had an eye catching giro with his yo-yo style but his final 14th standing and him being in the climber category with the like of Hindley and Landa made a very poor choice.
Interestingly he regularly brought in points in the Superclassico he participated, with his biggest value being the 210 points his 3rd place at coppa sabatini brought him.Verdict 2023: while he wil most probably be place in La fleche Wallone and Liège Bastogne Liege among other punchy classics, his high price tag is very unappealing.
Bryan Coquard -:
505 pts; 122nd in superclassicoThe only explanation as to this is that the Frenchman rarely performs in the races featured in the superclassico.
His placings were indeed in Pro races.
His only grand tour was at the Vuelta that Mads Pedersen made it horrible for any other sprinter to be worth it.Verdict 2023: He will most probably be at the start of the Tour as the main sprinter.
Alex Zingle
Just like Bryan Coquard, he mainly featured in races not on the Superclassico calendar.
However only priced at 6, he was worth it when he was on the start list and the race suited him.( BEMER classics and GP de Wallonie)Verdict 2023: Cofidis have themselves a good classic rider but his potential at the highest level is yet to be tested.
Ion Izagirre
His performance in Itzulia was remarkable both on the roads and in Velogames.
His second overall finish and his stage win made him the 4th most valuable rider.
At his 12 points value (compared to Roglic’s 28 or Dani Matinez’s 18 (winner), the spaniard was a steal. Sadly, except for Paris-Nice ( price:14, for 237pts- 15th), there was no other Velogames performance worthy of mention.
Verdict 2023: difficult for him to do better.
Benjamin Thomas
A guy to watch out for. While many will remember him as the second best 4 points of the Tour, he did make it in the best possible team of the Tour de France 2022.
Best possible team for Tour de France 2022:
Tadej Pogačar
Wout Van Aert
Jonas Vingegaard
David Gaudu
Thomas Pidcock
Louis Meintjes
Christophe Laporte
Benjamin Thomas
Nathan Van Hooydonck
Score: 14479
Cost: 100— Jeremad (@jeremader) July 24, 2022
His super classico pricing and performance are as much impressive.
Out of the 4 races he was on the startlist.
He finished 51st at the Amstel Gold Race, DNF at Coppa Bernochi.
He then brought 318 points from just two races Bretagne Classic Ouest (216 pts for an 8th position) and Gran Piemonte (102pts for 14th).
And he was priced at 4 coins!Verdict 2023: Unlikely to remain with a price tag of 4, but if he has improved more where we last saw him he might be a good 6 points.
Simon Geschke:
Probably my biggest blind eye of the year.
After making more of a mental note to include him in my Tour VG, following his eye-catching performance in Romandie- 3rd general, I somehow overlooked that.
Unclassed rider at 6 points, he brought in 608 points.
Only stage winner, Bob Jungels and top 10 finisher, Valentin Madouas brought in more points at this price.
In comparision in the same class ( Pidcock 8pts-1080, Cort 8pts-706, Ganna 10pts-6950)
Verdict 2023: is he done yet? Possibly not. If he shows the same fighting spirit and determination he showed at the beginning of 2022, he needs to be considered for his pricd tag is not expected to change.
Antony Perez, Victor Lafay, Jesus Herrada:
Those climbers are either hit or miss as they go for break aways. Perez did the Giro-Tour.
2 points to show in the Giro but he did better in the Tour having brought in 101pts from 2 breakaways adventures. Lafay was a disappointment at Le Tour.
Jesus Herrada was much more useful in the Vuelta.
Classified as a climber, he earned 448 points; only Jay Vine brought more for this much as a climber.(895)
Cofidis Women’s Team
Sandra Levenez
43 year old, Sandra Levenez was the team best rider in the classics series, courtesy of her 20th place at La Fleche Wallone and 25th at Liege Bastogne Liege.
Victoire Berteau
Her 17th place at Paris Roubaix was her only scoring of the classics. 168points
Clara Koppenburg
She brought close to nothing in the women classics (24 pts).
While Team Cofidis did not participate in most of the stage races on the velogames women calendar, Clara Koppenburg was showing promise in the Giro Donne right before her abandon.
