A 200+ km long stage with a Category 1 climb with an inclining terrain starting right at the beginning of the day. The mountain top is crest after 80 km with a long descent following and the last third part of the day decided ran at positive inclination.
A prime Peter Sagan would ask his Bora Hansgrohe team to ride at a steady pace to throw the heavier sprinters from the back. But time has changes and we could instead find the wolf-pack controlling things to bring Jakobsen to the finish, unless Remco has other things in mind.
⚝⚝⚝⚝⚝ Fabio Jakobsen
⚝⚝⚝⚝ Sam Bennett
⚝⚝ Giacomo Nizzolo
⚝ Fernando Gaviria
This will be a short, very explosive day. The finish comes at the end of a couple of uphill drags. This will reward a pure puncheur unless a rider manages to get away earlier and remains strong to the end.
⚝⚝⚝⚝⚝ Peter Sagan
⚝⚝⚝⚝ Danny Van Poppel
⚝⚝⚝ Jon Aberasturi

La Etapa Reina. Alto del Colorado features yet again at the star of the show. However with its 12.7 km at less 4.9%, it is not the most frightening of climb in the world. This is perfect set up for Remco Evenepoel, but there are other luring especially with fast sprint finish.

Vuelta a San Juan 2023 Velogames guide:
This looks like a sprinter heaven and getting as many sprinters as possible could prove to be the right way. If you are a Remc fan, spend your coin and build around him and even if you are not, you can still get away with it for not putting all your eggs in the same basket.
Soudal – Quick Step 22: The course suits him. The climb that will define the general classification is long but steady just like he likes it. He will be hard to beat.
BORA – hansgrohe 18: Would need for difficult gradient to put Remco in danger. He should finish on the final podium
Daniel Felipe Martínez
INEOS Grenadiers 16: He started season 2022 in ascending form but fell sick prior to the Tour de France. He will be given leadership of a strong Ineos Grenadiers team as Bernal continues his recovery
Soudal – Quick Step 16: Considered as the best sprinter on the planet, the European has a proper sprint train to make him dominate
Miguel Ángel López
Team Medellin – EPM 16: He will not have a lot of chances to show his abilities in his new team, but he would have preferred tougher terrain. Candidate for Podium
INEOS Grenadiers 14: Not much is known about his form, we are just happy that he is riding. He won a Tour de France out of nowhere in 2019, so anything is possible.
Movistar Team 14: Movistar will want to show off their new sprinter. He will be in the mix for stage placing regularly but it will take a little bit more than that to beat the 2 beasts sprinters. ( Jakobsen and Bennett)
BORA – hansgrohe 12: He is on his way back to his best self after a good Vuelta in 2022. He will have Danny Van Poppel as his lead out. It will be a thrilling battle against Jakobsen.
INEOS Grenadiers 12: He equalled Remco performances at the same alto Colorado in 2020. Cycling has changed as lot since then.
Israel – Premier Tech 12: His performance at Israel Premier Tech has not been quite to expectations last season. This is a new year, a new season.
Einer Augusto Rubio
Movistar Team 12: He has shown glimpse of his abilities last season. If he is courageous enough, he might be given a chance at a stage win.
Team Medellin – EPM 12: He finished on the podium in 2020. At 46, he still has a lot to show but he will most probably be protecting Miguel Angel Lopez.
TotalEnergies 12: There are a few hills and climbs that could favour Sagan but it is not 2016. He also does not have Bora-Hansgrohe to ride hard for him. He nevertheless brought his near A-team with him and will be the star of the Total Energies. At 12, he might prove to be a real bargain.
Danny Van Poppel
BORA – hansgrohe 10: An interesting choice who will mainly be leading out Sam Bennett. Along with assists points, he might get some placing himself. Also, stage 3 has a punchy uphill finish designed for him.
INEOS Grenadiers 10 The Equatorian is a real multi-purpose rider, but in the presence of Martinez, Bernal, Ganna and Viviani as sprinter, he might just resolve himself as being a very luxurious domestique
INEOS Grenadiers 10: The Italian is finding it very hard to tickle the best sprinters. He however can climb well. On a good day, his formidable might thin out the peloton for him, but that is way far fetched.
Soudal – Quick Step 10: Exit Jan Hirt, the opportunist. Enter Jan Hirt the lieutenant. The Czech duty will be to make it as hard a possible while being the last man before Remco does the inevitable.
Trek – Segafredo 10: Unlike other years, this time he is slowly building his conditions to be ready for Strade Bianche. He could be an interesting option for a break-away win or that uphill sprint finish.
Team DSM 8: Team DSM is a world tour team and he is their main climber for Vuelta a San Juan.
Team DSM 8: A very multi terrain rider who might enjoy the festive atmosphere of Vuelta A San Juan and thrive
Team DSM 8: The gift of the Velogames San Juan Edition. At 8, he is a must! A proper sprinter who has won before and has a proper team behind him. A minimum of 4 top 10 finished will make it worth it.
TotalEnergies 8: The Belgian climber made the shift to the French team this season. He would have been an interesting option if there were more complicated.
Trek – Segafredo 8: Pick him. Pray that he does not abandon. Thank me later. Trek- Segafredo’s designated sprinter.
Trek – Segafredo 8: His first season at Trek -Segafredo has been been quite underwhelming. We did not see much of him. Expect a big attack from him at the Aldo Colorado.
Trek – Segafredo 8 :The Czech already has a world tour win In UAE last year. At just 20, he cam make something out of this race as he will be eyeing for those breakaways.
Argentina 6: At 39, the Argetinian Sprinter will be worth all those 6 points with so many sprint finishes.
BORA – hansgrohe 6 :Bora- Hansgrohe motor man, before Danny Van Poppel takes things up.
EOLO-Kometa 6: Well known for his break away attempts, his chance of victory is severely down regulated by 2 very sprint teams ready to chase.
EOLO-Kometa 6: Better climber than Bais, he is also very find of break aways.
Brandon Smith Rivera
INEOS Grenadiers 6: A real locomotive. The presence of the Colombian might relieve Ganna off his duty and give the Italian some room for a challenge in his own.
Israel – Premier Tech 6: Zabel leading out Cavendish would have been a more glamourous. But it is not happening after Cavendish transfer to Astana was confirmed.
Soudal – Quick Step 6: Just like Danny Van Poppel, assist points and possible stage placings make him an interesting choice. His 6 credit prices justifies his limit on not being able to go for glory himself.
TotalEnergies 6: Part of Sagan Train.
TotalEnergies 6: Sagan leadout man.
Trek – Segafredo 6: A honorable team-mate who will be placing all the young guns in the best possible position.
Trek – Segafredo 6: Still recovering from a nasty crash, he would prefer more elevation.
Gleb Syritsa : Astana 6 : Credit 6 choice number 1. The young sprinter will be Astana leading sprinter. With some pretty impressive results last season, a win is not impossible to provide competition within the team
EOLO-Kometa 4 :He is going to be EOLO-KOMETA main sprinter.4 point rider choice number 1.
Israel – Premier Tech 4 He is a rider with proper motor. He would want to show his abilities.
Soudal – Quick Step 4: 4 credit rider choice number 2: Assist point for Jakobsen. Assist point for Remco.
Team Corratec 4:It is always very warm to see a rider back at the front of the scene after lots of bad luck. There is no time-trial to favour him but he is building his form
Tobias Lund Andresen
Team DSM 4: The 20 year old had a more than decent 2022 year with a 17th place in Schdelprij. He will probably be working for Welsford though.
Team DSM 4: The Young German is continuing his apprentice in the World Tour. Should anything happen to Welsford, he will leading the sprint
